Do I Need to Use a Thicker Cream at Night?
At Nakin we sometimes receive comments from customers asking why we do not have a thicker night cream in our natural anti-ageing face products collection, and the reason is because we do not believe that they benefit our skin.
Our skin often does not respond well to a heavy cream, and our high quality natural light formulations are more biocompatible with our skin, as they sink into the skin cells to help with rejuvenation. Most thick creams are too rich for our skin and synthetic creams contain lots of ingredients such as mineral oils, silicones, PEGs, and glycols, which leave a silky film on skin. Although they can feel lovely and cocooning, we believe that they are quite alien to our skin, and do not have any rejuvenating benefits.
To achieve a thick cream, it will either need to be filled with synthetic thickeners and hydrators which are not great for our skin, or high amounts of butters, which will be too much for our face and neck. Instead, we believe that our skin functions best when it has high quality formulations that are natural, and with a light consistency.
We do not have a separate night cream in our range, and our moisturisers are for both day and night use. They contain lots of amazing actives and extracts that our skin loves in both the day and night, plus are free from SPF. There is our Active Dew Face Cream which hydrates, nourishes and protects the skin with hyaluronic acid, cassia, pomegranate and plant oils. This is for day and night use and is for normal, combination, dry and sensitive skin. Then we also have our Matt Formula Face Cream for twice daily use and best for oily, combination, normal and sensitive skin.
Why You Do Not Need To Use a Thicker Cream at Night
Many skincare myths suggest that a thicker cream is necessary for night-time, but this is not entirely accurate. The primary function of a moisturiser is to maintain hydration and support your skin’s natural barrier, which can often be achieved without resorting to heavier formulations. Thicker creams may feel more luxurious, but they are not necessarily more effective. What matters most is the active ingredients within the product, such as humectants and nutrients, and how they address your skin’s unique needs. Additionally, heavy creams can sometimes clog pores, especially for those with oily or acne-prone skin. Instead of focusing on thickness, prioritise products that provide targeted nourishment and repair during your skin’s overnight regeneration process. This can include our products with amazing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, plant oils and actives.
Some people also believe that they only need to use moisturiser when their skin feels dry. However, hydration is an ongoing process and should be incorporated into your daily skincare routine in the morning and evening. Your skin can lose moisture throughout the day due to environmental factors, such as air conditioning and pollution, so it is important to replenish that moisture regularly. Furthermore, dehydrated skin can lead to premature ageing and other concerns, so consistent moisturisation is key in maintaining healthy and vibrant skin.
In the same way that dry skin does not need a thick moisturiser, another common myth is that oily skin does not need moisturiser. It is true that oily skin produces more natural oils, but that does not mean it is adequately hydrated. In fact, using a good moisturiser can actually help balance the oil production and prevent excess oiliness. Look for lightweight formulas like ours with lots of high-quality natural ingredients.
