International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day

Happy International Women's Day everyone. At Nakin we love having a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of all things female. We have a large female customer base and it means a lot to us that we are so supported. We are also a female founded and owned business.

There are so many inspirational women out there. Some are known, plus other unknown and quietly doing a great job in their lives; be it raising a family, caring, at work, in the community or bringing joy to people.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is to choose to challenge. This is symbolised by us holding our arm up at a right angle and with our palm facing to the front. It is such an important theme, as it is only by the challenge of brave women that we have got to where we are today. At Nakin challenging something is not just about fighting for the rights of women, it is about challenging anything that we see and hear that just does not feel right. It can also be about challenging ourselves and challenging ourselves to be the best version of us that we can be. To understand when we need to change and always be learning. Plus, to be proud of ourselves for all the good things we have done.

This year more than ever we should take some time to be kind to ourselves and support the other females in our lives.

There is also International Men’s Day which is later in the year in November. This will have a theme of creating a positive difference to the lives of men and boys, which also includes having positive conversations about men, raising awareness and charitable work to support this cause.

Nakin are committed to being an ethical business and we are also dedicated to living a natural healthy lifestyle. We work to achieve equality in everything we do, and this is important to us. We love having a day dedicated to females that allows us to stop and think about the impact that we have in the world. It really is a time to celebrate, reflect, empower and assess.

International Women's Day (IWD) holds paramount significance as it commemorates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the globe. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender equality and women's rights. Originating in the early 20th century from labour movements in North America and Europe, this day has since transcended its origins to become a worldwide day of activism and awareness. IWD not only celebrates progress but also acts as a call to action to accelerate gender parity. It's a day to reflect on the advancements made, to call for change, and to recognize the acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

Throughout history, women have faced various forms of discrimination and oppression based on their gender. IWD provides a platform to address these issues and work towards creating a more inclusive and equal society for all genders. It also serves as an opportunity to recognize the intersectionality of women's experiences, acknowledging that factors such as race, class, and sexuality play a role in shaping their lives and struggles.

Moreover, IWD is a day to celebrate the achievements of women in all fields, from politics and sports to science and arts. It's a time to recognize and honour the contributions of women who have broken barriers, shattered stereotypes, and paved the way for future generations. From Marie Curie becoming the first woman to win a Nobel Prize in 1903 to Kamala Harris becoming the first woman and person of colour to hold the position of Vice President in 2021, women continue to make history and inspire others through their achievements.

But IWD is not just a one-day event; it's an ongoing movement towards gender equality. It serves as a reminder that there is still work to be done and that everyone has a role to play in promoting and achieving gender parity. It's a call for individuals, organizations, and governments to take action towards creating a more equitable world for all.

So this IWD, let us not only celebrate the achievements of women but also use it as an opportunity to reflect on how far we've come and what still needs to be done. Let us pledge to support and uplift the voices of all women, especially those who are marginalized and underrepresented. Let us continue to challenge harmful gender norms and stereotypes and advocate for policies that promote gender equality. As we celebrate IWD, let's remember that true progress and change come from collective effort and solidarity. Together, we can create a world where all genders are treated with respect, dignity, and equality. So let us celebrate International Women's Day not just today, but every day as we strive towards a more inclusive and equal society for all.
