Skincare Series: Face Treatments
These days most of us use face treatments in our daily routine with products such as serums and oils because they have such great anti-ageing benefits for skin. Face treatments are all about rejuvenation, they work on skin repair by delivering intense shots of nutrients, and special active ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid. These actives have different benefits and they work with the skin to improve various conditions, and many support the structure of skin, and its Collagen and Elastin. Applying topical formulations that contain intense active cosmetic ingredients can really improve skin, helping it to heal from past damage. Supporting skin to function effectively and keep skin looking as good as it can.
When To Use Facial Treatments
At Nakin we recommend using face treatments by aged 25, to keep skin looking as good as possible. But it’s never too late to begin using skin therapy products. In fact, one of the amazing things about facial treatments is that with good ones like our Nakin Treatments your skin should react positively as soon as they are applied. This is not to say that they will knock ten years off of the way our skin looks, but they will give instant hydration, line smoothing and an all round glow. We find this with our Nakin range as it is made with natural ingredients, and so there is no resistance to our skin accepting them.
How Our Skincare Routines Incorporate Face Treatments
Our skincare used to be the basic 3-step regime of cleansing, toning and moisturising. But now it’s multifaceted with an array of gadgets and cosmetic procedures on offer. Liquid facial treatments have grown hugely in popularity in the last decade. There’s a very good reason for their growth, as they work to help skin overcome lifestyle and environmental damage. It’s those activities that when carried out on a regular basis really damage skin. Think drinking, lack of sleep, sun bathing, smoking, poor diet, excessive sugar intake, dehydrated skin, stress, computer use and uncared for skin. There is also genetics, but the sun undoubtedly has the most impact on skin ageing. The skin cancer foundation actually quote that 90% of noticeable skin changes related to ageing are due to the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. So sun protection through covering up and sunscreen is hugely important, remember to always ensure that you are receiving the right amount of vitamin D as well though. The sun emits both UVA & UVB radiation, and they enter both the top layer of skin (the epidermis) and the deeper layer of skin (the dermis). The radiation causes damage to the skins layers, and causes changes to our DNA. There’s also new enemies that we need to be aware of and that’s high energy visible light (HEV) which is in sunlight, but also in smartphone, computer and TV screens. So with our skin being subjected to both sunlight and HEV for a lot of the time, we need the best skin defence available.
At Nakin we always recommend the use of natural methods to enhance skin, and although we recognise that cosmetic procedures and chemical facial procedures are an essential choice for many, in this feature we focus entirely on the best that natural skin care has to offer. We also recommend supporting any facial skincare programme with an exercise routine, and the correct nutrition. One particular nutrient that needs a mention is Vitamin C. Even Dr Frederick Brendt (who was a huge advocate of Botox and Fillers) suggests supplementing by taking Vitamin C internally, as Vitamin C assists in Elastin and Collagen production. Of course expert advice should be sought before beginning any exercise and supplementation programme. The combined programme of exercise, nutrition and using the best natural skin care will give good results for glowing youthful skin. EXFOLIATORS
Exfoliators are such great facial treatments because a good one like our Nakin Exfoliating Radiance Tonic is exceptionally renewing to skin. It contains plant enzymes that clear skin of deep down grime and debris to reveal a fresh brighter complexion. Excellent to help with:
- Dark patches
- Pigmentation
- Lines
- Wrinkles
- Dullness
- Uneven skin tone
FACE SERUMS
Serums are exceptional at helping to improve the appearance of skin, because their consistency and ingredients mean that they have smaller molecules than a face cream. They can therefore reach the deeper layers of skin with potent anti-oxidants and powerful skin enhancing ingredients, such as Hyaluronic Acid, Hibiscus and Pomegranate. They excel in repairing past skin damage from the sun, stress and lifestyle factors. The skin concerns a serum like our Performance Face Serum will improve the appearance of is:
- Dark patches
- Lines
- Sagging and loose skin
- Fragility
- Dullness
- Uneven skin tone
EYE TREATMENTS
The skin around the eyes is thinner, and it does not have the same oil producing ability as the rest of our skin, so it’s often the first to show signs of ageing. So an eye treatment like our Eye Cream Complex is specially designed for the delicate eye area, due to its silky, light and spongy consistency. It hydrates and puts the goodness back, working it’s magic on the effects of stress and late nights. Tap on gently to also get the benefit of raised blood circulation, and plump out lines. The concerns that will benefit from an eye treatment include:
- Lines
- Crow’s feet
- Sagging
- Puffing
- Dark circles
- Dehydration
- Uneven skin tone
FACE OILS
Face oils are a truly joyful beauty treatment. The combination of putting divine ingredients onto skin, with the right massaging action, is the holy grail of simple at home beauty pampering. Gone are the days of greasy products, that clog pores and leave the hair and face looking pretty awful. Face oils these days, such as our Revitalising Face Oil give the chance to put smooth soft nutritious and decadent plant oils onto our faces, for glowing skin that looks fresh and alive. The skin issues a face oil will assist with are:
- Irritated skin
- Dry patches
- Hydration
- Puffing
- Dullness
- Uneven skin tone
- Congested skin
LIP TREATMENTS
Lips are thinner than the rest of our skin, and they are subject to lots of pressure from the environment and daily lifestyles. They are particularly prone to needing extra care in the colder months. There is a whole host of lip balms available, and like everything they dramatically vary in quality. One like our Lip Treatment Balm is packed with lip enhancing and protecting natural oils and butters; for sumptuous hydrated lips, in all seasons. Lip treatments help with.
- Chapping
- Smoothness
- Dehydation
- Flaky skin
- Loss of fullness
An important point to make about lip balms is to only use 100% natural products, as there is no need for any other ingredients to be in a balm, as they do not contain water. Also be aware that Petrolatum is often used in lip balms, and this has no nutritional value, and only acts as a barrier.
It’s easy to think that as the years go by, it’s a downhill battle to keep skin looking good. But skin is constantly renewing itself, and it looks different all the time due to our internal and external health and lifestyle. Things like our diet, hormonal changes and the weather will cause changes to the way our skin looks and feels. Feeding the skin from the inside with a nutritious diet and lots of water is hugely important. But it’s never too late to start a good skincare routine, and the earlier you start the better. Face treatments are one of the best ways to repair past skin damage, and rejuvenate skin.
