Why Are My Pores Becoming Blocked?

Having blocked pores is a common occurrence for many of us, and is difficult to avoid completely, although good facial cleansing products like ours in our face care range can help. The reason it is difficult to avoid is because our face is subjected to lots of grime and pollution on a daily basis and it can unfortunately settle in our pores. Some of us are more susceptible to blocked pores, and it tends to become more obvious as we get older.

As we age our pores tend to open and loosen, and so they become more susceptible to being blocked from daily grime. For oilier skin types and blocked pores, we would usually recommend our Rejuvenating Face Wash and Matt Formula Face Cream for a morning and evening skin routine. Massaging the face wash in thoroughly is a great way to clear and loosen blocked pores, and this effect also happens when applying our Advanced Cleansing Milk. We also have our Purifying Face Toner that can be used after cleansing, and the Exfoliating Radiance Tonic which really helps to clear pores.

Why Are My Pores Becoming Blocked?

Blocked pores on the face are often caused by a combination of factors that lead to the build-up of oil, dead skin cells, and dirt within the skin. The skin naturally produces sebum, an oily substance, to maintain moisture and protect against external irritants. However, when excess sebum is produced, it can mix with dead skin cells and form a clog within the pores. Additionally, environmental pollutants, makeup residues, and improper cleansing routines can exacerbate this issue. Hormonal changes can also increase oil production, making clogged pores more likely. Understanding these causes is essential to prevent and manage blocked pores effectively.

Blocked pores can lead to a variety of skin issues, including blackheads, whiteheads, and acne. These clogged pores create an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive, leading to inflammation and infections that result in breakouts.

There are several ways to prevent and manage blocked pores on the face. First and foremost, maintaining good skincare habits is crucial. This includes thoroughly cleansing the face twice a day with a gentle cleanser. Exfoliating can also really help to remove dead skin cells and prevent them from combining with sebum to clog pores.

Diet and lifestyle can also play a role in managing blocked pores on the face. Consuming too much dairy, sugar, or highly processed foods can increase oil production and contribute to clogged pores. Instead, opt for a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids. Staying hydrated by drinking enough water also helps flush out toxins from the body, and keeps the skin hydrated.
