Why The Best Face Creams Do Not Have Sunscreen in Them

At Nakin we receive lots of messages asking if our face moisturisers have sunscreen in them, and we totally understand this, as it seems like an easy way to moisturise and protect skin from the sun at the same time. However, we do not believe that combining them both together is the best way to moisturise our skin, or protect it from the sun. They are both very separate products with unique properties and benefits for skin. This is why we do not have SPF in any of our natural anti-ageing face products, which are all designed to revitalise our skin.

The absence of sunscreen in high-quality face creams is often a conscious formulation choice for many brands. Sunscreen ingredients are not beneficial for skin, they are there purely for sun protection and so should only be applied when actually going outside.

Face creams focus on providing targeted benefits such as hydration, anti-ageing, and nourishment with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and plant extracts. Including sunscreen reduces the number of actives and extracts that can appear in a formulation, plus sun cream really needs to be a thicker consistency than moisturisers, and with more staying power on the skin surface. This means that when SPF appears in a moisturiser there is reduced skin improving ability and a less preferable consistency, potentially leading to a heavier texture that may not be suitable for all skin types.

Additionally, sunscreen needs to be re-applied throughout the day to remain effective, which does not align with the use pattern of comprehensive skincare products designed to be applied once or twice a day. By keeping sunscreen and face cream as separate products, users can tailor their skincare routine to their specific needs, using potent formulations without compromise and ensuring adequate sun protection as needed.

One of the key benefits of using separate sunscreen and face cream products is the ability to customise your skincare routine. Every individual's skin is unique, and their needs may vary depending on factors such as age, lifestyle, and environmental conditions. By having a standalone sunscreen product, users can choose the level of SPF that best suits their skin type and daily activities. For example, someone who spends most of their day indoors may not need a high SPF, while those who spend a lot of time outdoors may benefit from a higher level of protection. Additionally, individuals with sensitive skin or specific allergies can avoid potential irritants by selecting a sunscreen that is tailored to their needs.

Having separate sunscreen and face cream products allows for more targeted application. While face creams are typically applied all over the face and neck, sunscreen can be more precisely and densely applied to areas that need extra protection, such as the nose, cheekbones, and forehead.

In addition to customisation and targeted application, using separate sunscreen and face cream products can also save time and money in the long run. Instead of constantly purchasing and experimenting with combination moisturising products, individuals can stick to their trusted face cream and select a separate sunscreen based on their specific needs at any given time. Sunscreen is a relatively cheap ingredient and product than when compared to a good quality moisturiser, like the ones we use at Nakin.

So, using separate sunscreen and face cream products can also lead to better results. Sunscreen is designed solely for sun protection, while face creams may have multiple functions such as moisturising, anti-ageing, and protecting properties. By using separate products, we can ensure that they are getting the best possible results from each product without compromising on sun protection.

While combination sunscreen and face cream products may seem convenient, there are many benefits to using separate sunscreen and face cream products. From customisation and targeted application to better overall results, choosing standalone sunscreen and face cream products can greatly benefit individuals in their skincare routine. So next time you are shopping for sunscreen, consider opting for a separate product tailored to your specific needs. It is also important to consider the ingredients in both your sunscreen and face cream. Make sure they are both high-quality and suitable for your skin type.
